HOW FAR CAN I FLY DJI PHANTOM 2 WHEN BATTERY AUTO FAIL SAFE KICKS IN?
"When the battery alarm sounds and the auto descend function kicks in, how far will it descend under control before the battery quits? "
In other words if you are on the way home and low on battery, what is the maximum height you ought to be at in case of a miscalculation?
Hank
If its already started to auto descend you are already in strife!
When the alarm goes off, it's got 30% power left.
That's if ther batteries are new'ish, it all changes as they get older
How long that runs for, depends on what you do and the day.
Cold day, less power:
Old Battery, Less Power:
Hot battery (From hard work), Less Power:
UPWARD manoeuvres: A LOT LESS power!
We have found that once the alarm sounds you have plenty of time to get it back from anywhere (within control range - even in fail safe), with battery to spare. But if the alarm sounds and she's heading down, the best you can hope for is a soft landing right there and then by using the UP control!
If you burn final stages of low battery life trying to do a "return to home" fighting the auto descend, the landing might be a disaster!
Once the alarm sounds, just head home at consistent height.
You could have up to 4 - 7 minutes left. But depends on the factors above.
Hope that helps!
