This was supposed to be a straight forward video, but its amazing how many videos

we start producing and then 3 weeks later, still don't have definitive answers.

Today, however, we do have a definite answer for you!

Before I start though .. a Zenmuse Gimble will eliminate the need for any of this!

This video looks at the dreaded camera vibration and jello or camera wobble  issues that happen all too frequently with GoPros or other action cameras.

After spending dozens of hours researching so many theory's about Jello,  I thought I would present mine! And remember, its only my version of a much discussed topic.

What the cause of camera vibration (or Jello)?

What is it?

Its mainly caused by the Rolling Shutter effect, the down side of the modern sensors where each frame is recorded not as a single image, but by scanning across each single frame vertically or horizontally and parts of the image are recorded unevenly when the camera is vibrating or swinging around.

So what causes it?

The actual unit itself? Not as much as you might think ......

Most of the vibrations are added from many other factors once in flight/ Things like wind conditions, sun, exposures, forward Speed, rotor condition, running Gear, (Including you camera weight and hang), the actual camera Mounting,

Can you stop it!?

My belief is that the JELLO starts when the camera and and the flying vibrations hit a harmonic resonance.  This could be from the rotors, the motors (combined or singly), wind shake or mount vibration.

9 flights will be perfect and then one will leave you scratching your head as to "why do I have camera Jello?")!

Again, I reiterate here, this is for domestic rigs, so please don't give me a negative

strike for trying to help a normal user get the best pictures they can....

The video features a list of six most simple ways to avoid Jello!

First up, Don't fly on a windy day if you want good pictures!

It's Simple! And always fly with the wind as the pictures will be a whole lot better without the Phantom working its butt off trying to fight the conditions. And remember your air speed could be 10 times faster flying with the wind.

2: Play with your forward speed and find where your Phantom likes to sit comfortably

Just like a car, they have a sweet spot. Slow, medium or fast and your height will affect the outcome quite significantly.

3: One of the hot topics of conversation is about rotor type, condition and balance.

And yes I get it, and yes, it will make a difference....

But no where near as much as you might think and the tests we'll show you demonstrate this time and time again.

Please see video for other items:

You need to go one of 2 ways with the camera mount, either fit the little vibration

plate with the anti vibration grommets or lock it on tight and direct to the under carriage.

The results are almost identical!

Do the vibration mounts actually increase wobble and exaggerate windage and even add bounce?

It pays to put a piece of cardboard or felt between the mount and the camera body

regardless of what method you choose as this will eliminate more engine vibration and side wobble than what you think.

This is our crash test unit with old and chipped blades, they have not been balanced EVER

and it has a full set of rotor guards and strings on boad to catch maximum wind and the day is far from dead calm for windage, plus we pick one of the worst subjects a camera can cope with, lots of trees with no real focus point and lots and lots of fine leaves.

Oh and did I mention, this is what the unit endured this last week!
Crash scenes!!

What happens if you leave the leg in shot!?

We also believe that the downdraft from the rotors creates turbulence that upsets the camera as well and we have designed a simple "clip in" wind deflector that is under test at the moment

And most of all remember that some days, your just going to eat Jello!
