DJI PHANTOM FIRMWARE UPGRADES

NEW: SET HOME POSITION CHANGES

SIGNIFICANT FIRMWARE UPGRADES

This is possibly one of the most significant things you will read and need to be aware of in regard changes to your DJI Phantom due to a recent firmware upgrade!

(New firmware upgrade for DJI Phantom 3 & 4

SIGNIFICANT CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE FIRMWARE OF DJI PHANTOM's

WHICH MEANS:

A: If you buy a new one you may have the old software installed until stocks have shifted

B: Your current Phantom will behave differently to the new ones!

So in short, everyones instructions, reviews and advice that is posted on forums, web sites and youtube will be all over the place from here forward unless you are right onto your upgrades (or choose to ignore them) ! But it is imperative to know which software you are running as the craft will now behave completely differently.

OK so what is the most significant points? (This is only a snap shot)

New release firmware (v3.08) and VISION apps (iOS v1.043 and Android v1.0.54)

for the Phantom 2 series have just been released.

A) Dynamic home point: when using a GPS-enabled mobile device and running the VISION app, the Home Point will automatically be reset to the location of the device every 2 seconds during flight.

THIS IS GREAT! AWESOME EVEN! But a HUGE change to the current system.

Your Phantom will now track wherever you are and that becomes your new home point.
So for people that are used to setting a home point elsewhere its all over...

unless you have current software or buy a unit that has not been upgraded!

This is great for boating or anytime you are on the move (a significant change) ....

but SUCKS if you dont want your Phantom to land where you are and you want it to fly to safety!

Also need to be mindful of the Phone not being flat or out of GPS service, because then your Phantom will presumably land at its last known point!?

B) Ability to change the Return to Home altitude added to the VISION app (ability to change this setting in the Assistant software remains).  THIS IS A GREAT NEW FEATURE!

F) Battery cell warning added to the VISION app that alerts users if battery issues are detected. Browse battery cell warning history in the VISION app.

G) New auto-discharging feature to address the issue of fully charged battery swelled when it was stored for an extended period.

H) Battery cell damages detection feature added.

I) Maximum descent speed set to 0.6m/s when the aircraft’s altitude is less than 10m and descending automatically (for example in failsafe mode). The maximum speed of descent remains 2m/s in other flight conditions.

THIS IS PRETTY SLOW! Be careful if you are used to quick response!

OTHER RECENT FIRMWARE CHANGES

3.06  What’s new?

Flight Controller Firmware

1. When the battery level reaches a Critical Battery Level Warning, the aircraft will automatically land. The motors will power off after landing.

2. When the battery level reaches a Low Battery Level Warning, Auto Go Home will be activated.* (THIS COULD SUCK!) Seems they've built in some real dummy stuff!

Special Notes:

1: The dynamic home point is only available when using GPS-enabled mobile devices.

Your aircraft will not be able to record a dynamic home point if you are using a mobile device without a GPS module (e.g. iPod).

2. The flight controller firmware must also be updated to to use all of the above features.

3. Be aware that aircraft will now automatically return to the Home point on Low Battery Level Warning. If you wish to disable the auto go-home feature, launch DJI Phantom Assistant, enter “Battery Settings” section and de-select the

“Go-Home” option.
